Jeffrey Smith, MD

Tony Goodbar, MD

Dr. Goodbar is a board certified physician in both Adult and Adolescent Psychiatry.  After graduating from Erskine College in 1981 and the Medical University of South Carolina in 1985, he completed his Internship and Residency in both General and Child Psychiatry in 1990. He served as both President of the Medical Staff and Adolescent Program Medical Service Director at Charter Hospital of Greenville while originating Piedmont Psychiatric Services for private practice.

With over 30+ years experience, his primary focus is  on psychiatric evaluation and medication management specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD, mood and anxiety disorders in children and  as well as adults.

Carrie Ballenger, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Carrie Ballenger, PMHNP

Carrie Ballenger is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a board certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She started working in psychiatry in 2002 before returning to the University of South Carolina to obtain a Bachelors in Nursing. After several years working in emergency nursing and case management, she returned to USC for a Masters in Nursing with a focus as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. 

Her specialty is medication management in a variety of psychiatric disorders including anxiety, depressive and mood disorders, ADHD, PTSD and trauma.  She treats adults 18 and older.  She focuses on a collaborative approach with patients working together to stabilize mental health, achieve patient goals and improve quality of life.

Jeffrey Smith, MD

Dr. Smith received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Alabama. He completed his psychiatric residency at the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute in Columbia, South Carolina.

Dr. Smith has been in private practice in upstate South Carolina since 1990, and his areas of interest include Major Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Adult ADHD, Psychotic Disorders, and Geriatrics.

Joseph Friddle, PA-C

Joseph Friddle, PA-C

Joseph is a licensed Physician Assistant who works in conjunction with Drs Goodbar and Smith. In 2004, he received an Associate of Science from Young Harris College, a B.S. in Science from the College of Charleston in 2007, and a Masters of Science from the Medical University of Charleston in 2009.

He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, as well as Adult ADHD. His expertise is primarily on psychiatric evaluation and psychopharmacology.

Sydney Broxton, PMHNP
Sydney is a licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who works in conjunction with Dr. Goodbar and Dr. Smith. She received her Master’s degree from Walden University in 2023 and focuses treatment on both adult and child psychiatry. She has a passion for mental health care and a dedication to improving the lives of those struggling with psychiatric illness.
As a former registered nurse in psychiatry, Sydney has a deep understanding of the complexities of mental health and a commitment to providing patient-centered care. Whether working with young children, adolescents, or adults, Sydney understands the need to create a supportive environment where patients feel heard and understood.
Outside of work, Sydney finds joy in spending quality time with family and friends, including her two dogs. She also has a passion for traveling and gaining fresh perspectives.
She focuses her treatment on children, adolescents, and adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, psychotic disorders, and bipolar disorders.

Ingrid L. Miller, MSW, LISW-CP

Ingrid Miller is a licensed Independent Social Worker with over 35 years of experience in both inpatient and private settings. She received a BA in Psychology from Kent State University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Kentucky.

She specializes in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) for adolescents and adults. Her areas of focus are in the treatment of depression, anxiety, grief/loss, narcissistic abuse recovery, and anger/stress management through individual counseling.

Outside of work, Ingrid enjoys time with family/friends, reading, listening to music, hiking, gardening, baking, and learning from YouTube.

Michael Smith, LPC

Mike Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 35 years’ experience and training in both private and inpatient settings. He has an expansive clinical background from Director of the Psychology Department at Marshall Pickens Hospital to consulting and teaching. He received a BA degree from Gardner Webb College and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology at Appalachian State University. In 1999, he was awarded the designation of ‘Certified Diplomate in Psychotherapy’ by the American Psychotherapy Association.

He specializes in individual therapy for mood and anxiety disorders, grief/loss issues, anger/stress management, and occupational injuries.

Zachary Adams, LISW-CP

Zach Adams is a Licensed Independent Social Worker who has worked in the field since 2019. He previously worked in an inpatient acute setting with children and adolescents who struggled with emotional regulation and behavioral issues. He also facilitated family therapy services to assist parents in addressing these issues in the home.

Zach earned a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministry with a counseling emphasis from Lee University in 2015. He went on to earn his Master of Social Work from Winthrop University in 2019.

Zach’s areas of focus are anxiety, depression, anger/stress management, life transitions, self-esteem, and behavioral issues. His favorite therapeutic concepts are self-[compassion and radical acceptance. His therapy style can be described as compassionate and nurturing, yet directive. His therapeutic approach is based in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with emphasis on mindfulness, strengths, and values.

In his free time, Zach enjoys outdoor activities, including walking, jogging, and hiking. He enjoys going to see a new waterfall or the occasional trip to the beach. He enjoys following sports, especially Clemson football (Go Tigers!). He also enjoys spending time with family and friends.
